Has anyone  encountered power problems at Poulsbo Marina? We arrived here last night and tried to plug into shore power and the breaker immediately went off. We were told that our boat’s electrical grounding was incompatible with their new 30 Milleamp pedestals. The solution was to either rewire our boat or rent a transformer. We spent the night without shore power and used our generator.  The Marina staff claim that every marina in the United States will need to meet this new standard and boats will have to be rewired. I find this hard to believe. Thoughts?

Glen, we’ve never had a problem but I know other boats have.  Eagle Harbor Public Dock also comforms to that same standard.  Which means if someone plugs into shore power with a boat that has stray current over 100 millieamps, it trips the master breaker and everyone loses power.

Try turning off the breaker to your battery charger.  I don’t know what that has to do with it,  but it worked at Eagle Harbor
